Meet Devon.
Devon is an artist. But not any artist. An artist with food. Specifically chocolate. Not only does his work display extreme beauty, it tastes more magnificent than any fine chocolate purchased at a store. If you’ve had the opportunity to try it, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Devon is not only an artist with foods; he does (and teaches) something called Parkour, and to me, it’s an art in the way he moves, jumps , flips, and displays true fearlessness. Here is a video displaying some of that. If you’re interested in checking out his yummy chocolate, go here .
At what point in your life did you realize your ability to create masterful and delicious foods?
My Mom was the first person that I can remember pointing out that I had the ability to cook amazing things. One day I just remember my Mom asking how on Earth my brother and I always had our cookies turn out perfect.
What advice would you give others who seek to pursue their talents in the same way you have?
The advice I would give would be to work hard at your talents, and be consistent. If you want to be a painter, you need to paint even on the days that you don’t feel like it or even when you do not have inspiration. Consistency is a key.
If there was just one thing you could fix or change about the world, what would that be?
If there was one thing that I could change about the World, it would be peoples’ desire to learn. I mean whatever happened to people going to school to learn because they want to learn and on that same note, whatever happened to schools being organized so that people can learn? It seems to me like people’s desires have began to revolve more around money than knowledge. So I now ask everyone.. If you had enough money to never need to work again, what would you do? I know that I would still work everyday. Work is one of my best friends!
What are some challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the challenges I have had to overcome has been the way some teachers and parents have treated me while growing up. I was in the “problem student” classes, Diagnosed with ADD and treated like I could not learn. One of my friend’s mom’s even told her that she should not be talking to me so much or else she would end up stupid just like me. I always reminded myself that people who view the world in a new or different way are often misunderstood.
What is the first life lesson you remember learning?
One of the first life lessons I remember learning came at around the age of 5. I was playing a small toy car at school and I liked it so much that I figured it would definitely be better to have it at my house, so I stole it. After getting home, my Mom saw me playing with a small toy car that she had not purchased. She asked if I had taken it without asking. After she figured out that was the case she told me to return it. My Dad and Mom let me return it all on my own and I learned that it was up to me to make correct decisions.
